MEET Rep.

Leading with Purpose. Serving with Heart.

Nathan Biah's story is unlike any other in Rhode Island politics. He fled civil war in Liberia on foot, arrived in Providence with nothing, and built a life through determination and education. Today, he's a husband, father of three, and principal of Dr. Jorge Alvarez High School. As your State Representative, Nathan fights to expand education funding, create opportunity for working families, and ensure every Rhode Islander has a fair shot at success.

Nathan Biah believes that where you start should never determine where you finish. Shaped by hardship and lifted by education, he is driven by a deep commitment to opportunity, equity, and service. He knows firsthand what it means to work hard with the odds stacked against you — and that's exactly why he fights for fully funded schools, accessible higher education, and a government that works for everyone.

Born in Monrovia, Liberia on December 4, 1971, Nathan escaped civil war at age 20, walking nearly 90 miles to freedom. After arriving in Providence, he earned his GED, worked in a factory, and went on to earn a criminal justice degree from Rhode Island College in 1999 and a Master's in Education Administration from URI in 2007. He taught math in Providence schools before becoming principal of Dr. Jorge Alvarez High School.

Rep. Biah is committed to every Rhode Islander who deserves better.
